It's kinda like Crack

A couple years ago when I lived in Korea this commercial would always come on and the song would always get stuck in my head, kinda like that Lykke Li commercial for Heineken. But here they basically just sing the telephone number over and over again. It's like crack. Not that I should know. But I do.

Movie Posters

I ran across this cool poster for the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that I had never seen before and I liked it alot, which inspired me to look for other interesting variations on movie posters. Here's what I found. Warning: you may experience a sever case of nostalgia. There's more after the jump ↓↓↓

En Quatre Couleurs

Plastic Bertrand was and still is a pretty original guy. I mean he's wearing that jacket in 1978, six years before Michael's Thriller.  That's about all I can say about him...I haven't done much research. But I do love this song. And I love the description of the lyrics, "(they) are totally nonsensical... like "wham bam my splash cat" and "cellophane puppet, chinese hair."

YESSSSS... I am the King of the Divan!!

Yo Yo Ma and 'Lil Buck

I'm not much into performance art, but this Spike Jonze clip of famed violinist Yo Yo Ma collaborating with dancer 'Lil Buck had me completely mesmerized. Is this the future for live art? I hope so....

Ernesto Neto Installations

This guy has some of the coolest art installations I've ever seen. I would love to get lost in one of them for awhile. Check out more after the jump. There's also a video of him setting up one of his installments. Pretty sick... ↓↓↓

Taman Shud...can anyone decipher the code?

I recently came across this old mystery that apparently is still a big deal in Australia. It's the story of an unsolved case surrounding an unidentified man found dead on Somerton beach in Australia. The case has been the subject of intense speculation over the years regarding the identity of the victim, the events leading up to his death and the cause of death. It's pretty fascinating.

RIP Dash

In loving memory of Dash Snow, New York artist/ "downtown legend" (7/13/09)

This guy was a rebel! I loved his persona more than I did his work, but together they made an awesome statement.

Despite coming from wealth and privilege he chose to become a junkie and an artist in the slums of downtown Manhattan. Now I don't necessarily condone that part of his life, because he did leave behind a baby girl. People can say whatever they want about him. But I straight admired the fact that he followed his heart and didn't care what people expected from him. In my opinion, that takes balls.

On another sad note, we also recently lost Cy Twombly (7/5/11). He was one of the pivotal painters of the '60s and '70's. Through his interactions with Pop Art and Post Modern painters, such as Rauschenberg and Johns, he developed his own style of modern painting. This guy was also a rebel in his own right and his paintings were hardly accepted during his lifetime. But I think his work will become more appreciated further down the line. I really love the white spaces he used. I think that speaks volumes, more than filling it up with paint.

The hills in Culver City have a great view of the los angeles basin and they remind me of Van Gogh's paintings.....

Joshua Tree

This place is so surreal. My brother and I decided to drive out here right after I left my job. I was honestly inspired by the U2 album and in particular the song "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Guilty, I know. But that song evokes such distant memories of my childhood and I thought it was only appropriate to go and check the place out for myself. It was worth it.
